What is the Wiki’s purpose?

This wiki, hosted by the State Services Commission, is an online space that provides:

  • social networking - Participation community of practice to converse with each other
  • a resource pool - where members can share knowledge on various participation initiatives, research papers, links, etc.
  • a sandpit - where members can be involved in helping us to develop policies/guidance as an input to the State Services guide for online participation

Terms and Conditions of Use

Terms and conditions that govern use of the Participation Wiki (aka the ParticipatioNZ Wiki and ParticipatioNZ) cover the following areas:

  1. Mutual Trust
  2. Access and Passwords
  3. Use
  4. Editing Policy
  5. Membership
  6. Privacy policy

Terms are binding

In using the Participation Wiki, you agree to be bound by these terms.

We may change these Terms and Conditions at any time by posting changes online. Please read our terms and conditions regularly to ensure you are aware of any changes made. If you continue to use this Wiki following any modification of the terms or policy, you will be considered to have accepted the modification.

Mutual trust

  • To ensure free expression of views, the opinions and materials exchanged in the Wiki will be considered to reflect the personal views of members and will not be held to represent the institutions to which they are affiliated.
  • People's contributions on the Wiki must not be given specific attribution outside the Wiki without the explicit permission of the contributor.

Access and Passwords

  • You must use your first name and surname as your account name. Avoid creating several accounts under similar names (e.g. John Smith, J. Smith, Johnny Smith, Jonathon Smith).
  • Accounts under pseudonyms will be blocked. These can be renamed and unblocked by contacting the Help Desk.
  • Members access the Participation Wiki with a user name and password. You are solely responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your password and for any activities that occur through the use of your password. We recommend you change your password at regular intervals. You must notify us immediately of any actual or suspected unauthorised use of your password.

Use

  • When using this site, you must act in good faith. You should assume others have made contributions in good faith also. Promote respect, tolerance and deliberation through your own example.
  • Don’t publish content to which you have no rights. You alone will be responsible for any breach of copyright by you.
  • This is not a commercial site
  • Be an ambassador of the community by inviting other people who you know have a strong interest in online participation to join the Wiki.
  • Public servants - your actions must be in keeping with the Public Service Code of Conduct.

Editing policy

  • Improve pages wherever you can, and don't worry about leaving them imperfect.
  • Avoid deleting information wherever possible.
  • If in doubt, start a discussion page or contact the Help Desk.
  • The Participation Project Team may edit any posting in whole or in part and may remove any posting that does not comply with the Rules.

Membership

  • Membership is open to anyone with an interest in online participation.
  • If you breach the Wiki's Terms and Conditions your membership rights may be revoked by the Participation Project Team.

Privacy Policy

Our obligations –

  • Your personal information on your user page is used to facilitate dialogue and networking within the Community of Practice. We will only disclose your personal information outside the Wiki with your consent or as required by law.

Members –

  • Members must not disclose another member’s personal information without that member’s prior consent.
  • You can update your personal information on the Wiki.
